Moulin du Couesnon - The Renovation

About Us
Paul & Donna have backgrounds in the fields of Construction and Property & Facility Management respectively. They met and married in the UK in 2003, then bought a 400-year-old cottage to refurbish in central Scotland. And over six years they extended it from two bedrooms and one bathroom to six bedrooms, three reception rooms and four bathrooms and this is when they both realised their love for renovating old buildings.
They moved to Dubai in 2008, where for over 10 years Paul was Chief Commercial Officer working on many projects with major development companies and Donna was a Property & Facility Management Consultant working on projects throughout the Middle East.
The French connection
The scale of this renovation on the Mill is huge but thankfully Donna & Paul have a track record of renovation projects and prior to this project co pleted an ambitious renovation of a Chateau in the Deux Sevres region of France.
When Donna and Paul viewed Château de Saugé in March 2018 they immediately fell under its spell and spent the following 5 years refurbishing this beautiful building and its private grounds. They created a luxury B&B, a Holiday Home, a Business & Events Centre and a Vintage Tearoom.
New Beginnings in Brittany
Another beautiful building and our next project – This beautiful Water Mill which sits on its own island in the middle of 2 bridges (Le Vieux Pont sur le Couesnon) which were built on the foundations of a 12th Century Gallo Roman Bridge. For centuries this was the only way to cross the River Couesnon. The bridges bear witness to an episode of the Vendée Wars – on the night of November 21, 1793 when violent clashes on the bridges pitted Republican troops led by General Kleer against Catholic and Royal Army led by Stofflet.
This battle of the Viree de Galerne marks a turning point in the post-revolutionary clashes of the Chouannerie and the Vendée Wars.
The Mill straddles two communes Antrain and La Fontenelle today grouped as Val Couesnon. The administrative boundary is said to be located at the centre of the old mill door. It symbolically unites the two municipalities and their inhabitants.
Welcome to : Moulin du Couesnon – our new project.
